Round One Biscoe:
Mom managed to keep her job as part of the police force when we moved here. Mom split from Dad because he was an alcoholic and dragged us here. I (Cricket) don’t mind, but Rogerson, my brother, minded a lot. Apparently he had this real serious girlfriend back there and because of that he doesn’t take any of the girls here seriously.
Mom wants me to be a lawyer. I don’t mind the idea, but she should really take care of her own affairs.
There’s this army guy that keeps hanging around hitting on my mom. He’s always hanging around, but he hasn’t tried anything funny yet. Rogerson says he just wants to get into mom’s pants. I think he’s hallucinating. I don’t want mom to see another guy, so soon but I guess I can’t say anything right?
I still love mom either way, I mean she’s my mom!

It was no surprise when I got A’s here in Lush Valley too. Mom still cheered for me anyways.

And every morning before going to work she’d make sure I’d get on the bus first
